Vacation 2012 - Washington DC

This year we vacationed in Washington DC.  It was wonderful getting to see all the history, monuments and buildings in DC.  This was our first time visiting.  It was very HOT and we certainly got our exercise.  We also traveled by metro and that was my first time using major public transportation but it was easy to do and to get around.  I think I may have worn out my parents along the way...they had to come home to get some rest!

Our first place to visit was Arlington National Cemetary.  It was overwhelming to see all of those graves and JFK's eternal flame but it was a really beautiful place to visit.

The next day we did our walk by the White House.  It was really amazing to see it in person.

We followed up our White House walk by with a visit to the White House Visitor Center and the American History Museum.  That afternoon we did a tour of the US Capitol.  We also visited the Library of Congress.

That evening we did a DC at night tour which took us around DC on a double decker bus to see all the monuments lit up at night.  It was a beautiful view of DC.

The next day we traveled to Hershey, PA to visit Hershey's Chocolate World. At Hershey, we did a chocolate tasting and created our own candy bar. It was chocolate heaven for those of us who are chocolate lovers!

On Thursday, we visited downtown DC again and did a hop-on, hop-off tour around DC.  This gave us the opportunity to see all the memorials and monuments from the night tour during the daytime.  This also took us by Ford's Theatre, Washington National Cathedral and Georgetown.

On Friday, we visited the Air and Space Musuem and the National Postal Museum.  After visiting the museums, we had one last stop at Bethesda, MD to Georgetown Cupcakes.  The cupcakes were fabulous and well worth the money.
